Simply Fetching Dog Ascots
This local designer handmakes neck ruffles for canines.

Nicole Deponte didn’t set out to make ascots for dogs. When the local artist launched her line, Lilian Asterfield, in 2009, she focused on fanciful, one-of-a-kind women’s mufflers crafted from vintage neckties. One day, Deponte tried one of the creations on her hound, Bugs, and posted the photos on Facebook. Suddenly, she had a canine collection. She shapes and sews two collegiate cravats together for each ascot—perfect for the dapper pup about town.
