Bobby Orr Statue Is Moving to a New Spot Outside TD Garden

The TD Garden’s statue of Bobby Orr is on the move.
Officials have announced that the bronze tribute to the Boston Bruins legend will temporarily be moving from its spot outside of the venue’s western entrance to nearby Portal Park over the next few weeks.
The news comes as Garden owner Delaware North continues construction on “The Hub on Causeway,” a new plaza that’s being built in front of the venue which is scheduled to be completed by 2018. According to Boston.com, the addition will include a movie theater, a sports bar, and even a supermarket.
In addition to the Orr statue, the Garden will also be taking down its iconic, marquee sign in front of the arena, although it will be “dismantled for potential later use,” according to the venue’s website.
The construction around Causeway Street is expected to have an effect on pedestrian and traffic flow in the area.
The statue, depicting a leaping Orr during the Bruins’ 1970 Stanley Cup win, will eventually return to a spot outside the arena. Garden spokeswoman Tricia McCorkle told Boston.com that it will have a place in front of the new plaza once construction has been completed.
