In March, we reported that Boston will be the new proud home of a Barry’s Bootcamp franchise. The celebrity-touted fitness program has locations in Los Angeles, New York City, Nashville, London, and as of this summer, Downtown Crossing. We caught up with Brian Weller and Dustin Martin, who gave us the details on what to expect this summer.

You recently signed a lease at 30 Chauncy Street. What made you choose Downtown Crossing?

We felt this Downtown address maximizes accessibility and convenience for our bootcampers given its central location and proximity to the major T lines and business district of the city. We were also drawn to the ongoing revitalization happening in the area and decided it was something we wanted to be a part of. Many factors went into the decision and overall we felt this was the right place to call home.

Tell me about the space. You said it was 5,100 sq ft and there will be locker rooms with showers?

We are really excited about our space. It is going to be one of the largest and most modern Barry’s to-date, including a 1700 sq ft studio, a Fuel Bar serving smoothies and protein shakes, two large locker rooms with spacious showers, luxurious amenities and a spa-like atmosphere. It was important to us to deliver a spacious layout with up-scale amenities to reward our bootcampers for their hard work.

Sounds expensive. How much will a class be?

Classes will range from $23-30 per class, and discounts will be given for purchasing blocks of classes.

That’s not so bad, average for our area. When do you hope to open?

We expect to open in August.

Why do you think Boston is a good place for the franchise?

When we look at Boston, we see a city filled with active and passionate people. At the same time, boutique “group fitness” is just beginning to make its way into the Boston market. Understanding how challenging it can be to self-motivate every day, we think Barry’s will give Bostonians a year-round opportunity to have an intense, results-driven workout in a fun environment alongside people that have the same ultimate goal, which is to be fit and feel great.

When will you be hiring staff?

We have already received an overwhelming amount of interest from local trainers who are familiar with the Barry’s product and brand, but we are still in the process of building our Boston team. We will always be looking for the best group fitness trainers in the area. If interested in applying, please contact Boston@BarrysBootcamp.com.

Tell me about the workout.

Barry’s Bootcamp is the ultimate group fitness workout, combining cardio and strength training. Each class can have up to 40 students and the classes combine interval-based cardio and strength training. The strength training routine targets a different body part each day using a selection of free weights, fitness steps, resistance bands, medicine balls, and more. The studio is filled with motivating music and trainers. Clients of all abilities are carefully guided through varied and creative exercises and given the personal attention designed to achieve amazing results. We always end each workout with a cool-down stretch. Clients can expect to burn up to 1000 calories per class.

How many classes will you have a day?

We will run around eight to 10 classes a day, starting around 6 a.m. and ending around 9 p.m. Classes are all 60 minutes in length, though we may offer 50-minute lunch classes during weekdays.
