Prolific North End businessman Frank DePasquale plans to open his newest restaurant concept, Sfizi, on October 16, DePasquale Ventures announced today.

Sfizi will capitalize on the trend of small plates-sharing, with 30-plus dishes on the menu, ranging from $6-$14. Chef Gianni Caruso, formerly of DePasquale Ventures’ concepts Bricco, Umbria, and Quattro, is the new restaurant’s executive chef. He is planning a menu with Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, and French influence, like arancini with saffron rice and pulled rib meat; bone marrow gratin with rosemary garlic toast; grilled octopus with giant lima beans salad; spicy glazed chicken skewers with tabbouleh; and sautéed jumbo prawns with garlic white wine and chili flakes. Additionally, one fish, red meat, and chicken entree will be available nightly, rotating weekly.

On the bar, look for Mediterranean wines as well as red and white sangria, beer, and cordials.

DePasquale also operates a few Bricco affiliates in the North End: Trattoria il Panino, and Mare Oyster and Crudo Bar, which opened at nearby 3 Mechanic Street in July. Sfizi is located at the former Mare location. It will open nightly from 4 p.m. to midnight.
