Free Cone Day and Free Iced Coffee Day Coincide This Week
Fenway Park opens for 2016 Red Sox season today, and in another certain sign of spring, it’s almost Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day.
From 12-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, scoop shops on Newbury Street, in Harvard Square, and at South Shore Place in Braintree are doling out complimentary cones (or cups) of Ben & Jerry’s range of chunky, swirled flavors. It’s the 36th annual free-for-all; the Vermont company debuted Free Cone Day on its first anniversary to thank its customers, and the celebration has grown to be a worldwide holiday with 1 million scoops served last year.
Will you go for a classic, like Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, or Phish Food? Or take the opportunity to try one of Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Core, Greek frozen yogurt, or non-dairy flavors? The choice is yours, and the only bad one would be to miss out on the frozen freebie. Note: The kindly company does not discourage repeat conestomers, so feel free to hop back into line for another scoop or two.
Maybe just pack an umbrella.
To help fortify you as you wait in the inevitably long line—or perhaps to perk you up after the post-cone crash—Au Bon Pain is also ushering in spring with free treats. From 2-5 p.m. on April 12, 24-ounce cups of iced coffee and tea are on the house. While Au Bon Pain’s landmark Harvard Square location is gone, the deal is on at shops in Central Square, on Boylston Street, at Copley Place, at Exchange Place, and elsewhere around the region.
