Real Wedding: Melanie Platten & Adam Feintisch

THE STORY

After his first date with Melanie Platten, at a New York wine bar, Adam Feintisch sent her a text message that sounded like the beginning of a love song. “This is going to sound strange,” wrote the third-year surgical resident, “but I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you.”

Meanwhile, Melanie, then an Emerson grad student, called her older sister, Rachel, and gushed about this amazing guy whom she’d met through Facebook. “He was just so nice. I’d been out with a lot of guys who were so full of themselves,” she says. “Adam was driven and yet humble—so charming, warm, and kind.” Her sister was excited for her, too. “She was just soaking up my happiness,” says the Newton native. “She asked what it felt like, and I told her that everything felt better, more vibrant and alive.”

Unbeknownst to Melanie, Rachel—a singer/songwriter who signed with Columbia Records in early 2015—was taking notes, and she eventually turned those heartfelt musings into a real love song about Melanie and Adam’s romance, called “Better Place,” that’s now played on national radio. The refrain—“It’s a better place since you came along”—says it all. “Most people visualize the lyrics of a song are about them, but we have a song that’s actually about us,” Adam says.

Three years after the couple’s first date, Rachel performed the song for them at their Four Seasons wedding, which, fittingly, was all about the music. “I didn’t care about the food or the flowers. We didn’t stop to cut the cake. We boogied,” Melanie says. “I did the worm in my dress. Nobody sat down the entire time.”
