America Eats Dinner at Dunkin’
Like all good New Englanders, Boston Daily loves Dunkin’ Donuts. Sure, we may not like Rachael Ray, but we know where we can get a reliable cup of coffee and a decent bagel. Now the chain is trying to keep its locations busy past the morning rush by offering sandwiches and pizzas.
Dunkin’s newfound desire to make its brand everything to everyone gives us pause. Back in our high school days, we functioned almost exclusively on products from Dunkin’ Donuts. Coffee and a bagel on the way to school in the morning, and a donut and another coffee after class let out. Apparently kids these days are stopping at other places for their afternoon snacks, so we understand Dunkin’s push to keep up with demand.
As adults, we’re a wary of ordering lunch from a breakfast place, but knowing that our pizza has been cooked in an oven instead of heated in a microwave makes us a little less nervous. The price ($2.99 for a four-cheese flatbread sandwich) is a relative bargain compared to traditional lunch spots.
Dunkin’ Donuts is handing out samples of its new creations at City Hall Plaza today, but we don’t have an arc to get over there in this rain. Once the floodwaters recede and our local Dunks starts offering the savory meals, we’ll let you know if the company should have stuck with simply making the donuts.
