Waterworks Museum
Nineteenth-century industry meets modern elegance at the Waterworks Museum, located in the former High Service Pumping Station along the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. With room for 200 standing guests, the Great Engines Hall is a grand event space that showcases three massive restored steam engines set against a background of pine ceilings, sinuous spiral staircases, and antique windows. The modern, glass-enclosed Overlook Gallery, meanwhile, fits up to 60 seated guests and boasts exposed-brick walls and plenty of industrial charm. Recently added to the list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts, the Richardsonian-style building sits on lush acreage (the perfect setting for beautiful wedding photographs), and harks back to Boston’s golden age of technological and architectural wonder.
