Sweet Success: Tatte Fine Cookies & Cakes
It’s been a big year for Israeli-born baker Tzurit Or. In May she opened a Cambridge location of her beloved Brookline bakery, Tatte Fine Cookies & Cakes. The new place specializes in not only sweets but also more-exotic, savory fare (think shakshuka—eggs poached in a spiced tomato sauce—and a halloumi-cheese-topped salad). And thanks to a recent collaboration with mega retailer Williams-Sonoma, 16 of Or’s confections—including her meticulously assembled nut and fruit tarts, pictured at above—will this month reach millions of potential customers. For a chef who five years ago was selling handmade treats at the Copley Square farmers’ market, it’s a monumental leap—and a testament to the power of beautifully crafted pastry.
