When the Fairmont Copley Plaza underwent a $20 million revamp this past year, one of the main goals was to transform its restaurant, the stodgy Oak Room, into a more welcoming place. To accomplish that, the designers Dayna Lee and Ted Berner of the L.A. firm Powerstrip Studio came on to reimagine the eatery as Oak Long Bar + Kitchen. “We wanted to create pattern and light,” Lee says. “We just wanted more sunshine in the room, and more reflectivity and more energy.”

The new space, anchored by an 83-foot copper bar, is entirely open, and features details that play up the room’s Beaux Arts-style architecture. “We wanted really warm and friendly colors that looked bright, but also had an element of legacy to it,” Lee says.
