Five Things to Do If the World Doesn't End on Friday

If the end of the Mayan calendar truly signifies the Apocalypse, then we will all meet our impending doom this Friday. With that ever-uplifting thought in mind, let’s ponder how we’d like to spend our supposed last hours on Earth (or, more probably, the hours preceding the weekend-before-Christmas shopping stampedes). Yes—Friday would in fact be best spent in the company of good friends, comfort food, and booze. Check out these end-of-the-world parties going on around town:
The Last Day on Earth Party at The Painted Burro
If you’re thinking of spending your “last day” at a Mexican fiesta, The Painted Burro will offer traditional Mayan dishes and drinks, clever and appropriate twists on other dishes, Mexican Bingo, a confession box in which guests can insert their most regretted sins (or not, if they fear we’ll see another day), and a toast at midnight if we make it.
Dec. 21, 5 p.m.-1 a.m., free entrance, The Painted Burro, 219 Elm St., Somerville, 617-776-0005, thepaintedburro.com
Last Chance to Dance Party at Church
Check out Church of Boston (the club) for one last chance to dance. Party it up with Federator No. 1, Endangered Speeches, and Kina Zore, and enjoy great grub from the restaurant portion of the venue. Bring your closest friends, savor the taste of a few last beers, and dance until the world ends (or not).
Dec. 21, 8 p.m., tickets $12 for 2 or $20 at door, Church, 69 Kilmarnock St., Boston, 617-236-7600, churchofboston.com
Beer & Last Meals at Bukowski
At Bukowski Tavern, staff will appropriately be serving La Fin Du Mon on tap. Of course, along with heavy beer, Bukowski will be providing a one-of-a-kind menu with the managers’ choices for perfect last meals. These include: chocolate chip Belgian waffles with whipped cream and syrup, bacon, and sausage, eggplant lasagna stuffed with ricotta and mozzarella cheese, and delicious garlic bread, baked macaroni and cheese with jalapeños and bacon, and filet mignon stuffed with a lobster and burgundy demi-glaze. Now that’s a proper Doomsday feast.
Dec. 21, until 2:30 a.m., free entrance, Bukowski Tavern, 1281 Cambridge St., Cambridge, 617-497-7077, bukowskitavern.net
RadioBDC End of the World Party at Game On
The basement of Game On! will have an end-of-the-world type atmosphere (whatever that means) on Friday. The party will of course include boozing and feasting, quality music thanks to Mmmmaven, giveaways, and Shock Top and RadioBDC craziness. If Fenway’s the Boston neighborhood in which you’d like to party like it’s your last day on Earth, don’t miss this one.
Dec. 21, 9 p.m., free entrance, Game On!, 82 Landsdowne St., Boston, 617-351-7001, radiobdcshock.eventbrite.com
Tavern at the End of the World Party
What better place to face the supposed Apocalypse than at the Tavern at the End of the World? The hot spot will celebrate with live music performed by Natalie Flanagan, Trick Wallace Trio, Fireking, Trusty Sidekick, and Andrea Gillis. Of course, great alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) beverages will be available, and for those looking to stuff their faces, something can certainly be arranged.
Dec. 21, until 2 a.m., free entrance, Tavern at the End of the World, 108 Cambridge St., Charlestown, 617-241-4999, tavernattheendoftheworld.com
