Updates: Third Fatality Identified, Dozens Still Critical

Updated 11:24 a.m.: Boston Medical Center treated patients with injuries ranging from scalp wounds and abdominal wounds, to soft tissue injuries and lower leg injuries. Of the 23 patients (who ranged in age from 5 to 78) treated, 16 remain hospitalized; one is listed in critical condition, 10 in serious condition, and five in fair condition.

Updated 10:30 a.m.: Brigham and Women’s Hospital is reporting that they have 10 patients still hospitalized from the bombings and four of those patients remain in critical condition.

Updated April 18th 10:24 a.m.: Tufts Medical Center is reporting that they have five patients with injuries related to the Boston Marathon finish line explosion and the good news is that none are in critical condition. Nine patients have been discharged and Tufts did not perform any amputations.

Updated 6:46 p.m.: Boston Medical Center reports that progress is being made regarding the 19 patients they are still treating. Since yesterday, eight patients have seen their condition upgraded from critical to serious, and this afternoon the first patient was discharged. Of the patients who remain at BMC, two patients are still in critical condition, 10 still listed as serious and six remain in fair condition.

Updated: 4:37 p.m.: Brigham and Women’s Hospital reports that 35 people were treated at the hospital and 12 are still there; nine patients were operated on; four are still in critical condition; and doctors performed one amputation. One doctor tells NECN’s, Jackie Bruno that the injuries are, “only things you see in a war zone.”

Updated: 1:56 p.m.: Boston University has officially confirmed that third person murdered by Boston Marathon bomber(s) was Lingzi Lu, a grad student from China.

Updated 12:49 p.m.: Tufts Medical Center’s latest numbers:

Tufts Medical Center treated 14 patients with injuries related to the Boston Marathon finish line explosion. Seven patients have since been discharged; seven are still at the hospital  The good news is that none are in critical condition. None of the patients have had any amputations, nor do we anticipate that any of them will need any amputations.

Updated 12:42 p.m.: Massachusetts General Hospital’s latest numbers:

Patients in critical condition: 4; serious condition: 4; fair: 3; discharged: 1.

We are continuing to monitor and update you on the victims of the Boston Marathon explosions. The latest numbers: 3 dead, 176 injured, 70 in hospitals, including 24 still in critical condition. Yesterday, we reported that Krystle Campbell, a 29-year-old from Medford, and Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy from Dorchester were identifed as two of the three fatalities. The third victim was identified this morning by a Chinese state-run newspaper as Lingzi Lu, a Boston University grad student.

According to the Globe, as of late Tuesday night, at least 11 people lost limbs, including a 9-year-old girl who lost her leg. At least 70 of the injured remained in Boston hospitals, and 24 are still in critical condition. The Globe is also publishing a confirmed list of the victims.
