40 Reasons to Love Boston
31.
Because (sooner or later) we get the bad guys.
We got the marathon bombers—in four days. We got Whitey. The Gardner heist is all but solved. And, finally, the Boston Strangler case is about to be closed.
32.
Because we’re so obsessively clean, it’s illegal to hock a loogie on our sidewalks.
33.
Because here we bleed green.
34.
Because this is a sports town…
Because Celtics fans, with their team down 25 points to the Miami Heat at the end of Game 6 of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals, chanted “LET’S GO CELTICS” for five minutes straight.
Because nobody has as much fun in the snow as Patriots fans.
Because when Theo Epstein left, he felt compelled to write a heartfelt 1,600-word column to Red Sox fans explaining why—and when Bobby Valentine left, nobody would have let him.
Because this season Bruins fans sang the best national anthem we’ve ever heard.
35.
Because we’re just the right size for farm-to-table to really thrive.
Boston has become a sweet spot for young chefs, just big enough to merit national attention, but small enough that outstanding farms are less than 30 minutes away. Some cooks don’t even have to travel to get their fresh produce and meat. Frank McClelland, of L’Espalier, wakes up at Apple Street Farm every morning, and now supplies many of his rival kitchens with chickens, eggs, and greens. And Ana Sortun, chef and owner of Oleana, married one of her vendors: farmer Chris Kurth, of Siena Farms, who grows almost every last pint of Oleana’s produce during prime growing season.
36.
Because we’ll never tire of looking at this.
37.
Because when Allston residents put free junk out on the street, they call it Christmas.
38.
Because only here can you find the Athenaeum and the Club of Odd Volumes.
39.
Because we’re wicked loyal.
We have the lowest divorce rate in the country, but it’s when we get behind a team that we truly never quit. No matter how bad (or good) it gets, we’re in the stands, cheering, beering, and jeering.
40.
Because revolutions start here. (We all know the Tea Party wasn’t about tea.)
