Another Indoor Cycling Studio Opens in Boston

How many indoor cycling-only studios were there in Boston (proper) just four months ago? Three. (And two are the same owner/studio.)
How many can you actually call a “spin” studio? One.
Indoor cycling is either extremely popular in the Boston area, or everyone had the same idea at the same time. Either way, local fitness enthusiasts are reaping the rewards. Starting Thursday and carrying on through Sunday, Pursuit Boston is celebrating its grand opening by offering free classes. That’s right. Four days of free classes. (Perfect if you are already getting cabin fever from all of this snow.)
There are a couple of things that make Pursuit (fairly) unique. The studio is only the second in town to offer stadium seating, a perk of Flywheel (something they perfected, if not invented). I’ve tried at least 10 to 12 different studios in four states and I’ve never seen stadium seating anywhere but Flywheel. Setting up bikes this way is smart because it allows everyone to be able to see the instructor, no matter where your bike is located in the room. It also makes the class seem a bit less crowded, even if it isn’t.
Also unique to our area is being able to actually use the word “spin.” There I said it, and I’ll say it again. SPIN! Spin is a four-letter-word in the fitness world because you can’t call a spin class a “Spin”class unless the bikes and instructors are specifically Spin bikes and Spin instructors. Get it? It’s sort of like Zumba. Some gyms will call it Latin Cardio or Latin Dance because they are not paying for the brand name and special Zumba-trained instructors. The whole thing is annoying for health journalists and fact-checkers. So, it’s a breath of fresh air to finally be able to say spin without getting dirty looks. (You know who you are.)
