Where to Workout Pre-Super Bowl
The last football Sunday is upon us, and it’s the big one. Unfortunately, the Pats didn’t make it this year which means that many of us will be more interested in the halftime show than the actual game. So make this Sunday a sweaty one and try one of these “Super Bowl” workouts. And don’t forget, pitchers and catchers report in 17 days. You’re welcome.
Flywheel Sports
The “spinning on steroids” (my opinion) boutique indoor cycling studio in the Pru will hold two Super Bowl-themed 45-minute rides at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. We’re told that it will mainly be a sports music themed class, but it is clear neither of those classes can compete with the brilliant 2 p.m. ride which will be a Jock Jams Volume 2 (not to be confused with Volume 1, of course) music-themed ride.

The Handle Bar
This Southie cycling studio is also hosting a Super Bowl themed ride called, “Bar Fight” and the unique class will feature two instructors on one stage going head-to-head. Owner Jessica Bashelor says that each instructor will take a song and battle it out to make you sweat. This will be a competitive ride set to hip-hop, dance, and jock jams.

Back Bay Yoga
Not into the big game? Skip the Super Bowl entirely and head to Back Bay Yoga for their weekly Sunday evening classes. You can attend the 6 p.m. “Open Level,” which is a creative Vinyasa Flow where you can work at your own level with instructor guidance, or the 6:30 p.m. Yin and Restorative which is a quiet and restful class focused on longer holds (Yin) and some poses supported by props (Restorative).

Pure Barre
Lift, tuck, pulse, and plié your way to the coveted dancer’s body. Pure Barre offers a Sunday evening class at 5:15 p.m. perfect for a quick pre-game workout. The 60-minute class infuses ballet, Pilates, dance, and isometric exercises to help promote a long, lean body. Football players have been known to take ballet to make themselves more graceful and balanced on the field.
