More than 40 New England athletes are competing in Sochi, Russia, for their chance to medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. To get into the Olympic spirit, consider celebrating the games the best way Boston knows how—drinking—at one of these area bars.
Cheer for Harvard at Grafton Street
How do you like them apples? Harvard women are kicking major butt in Sochi 2014 hockey. Katey Stone, the Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women’s Ice Hockey; Julie Chu, Harvard Class of ’06 , and three current Harvard players, Lyndsey Fry, Michelle Picard, and Josephine Pucci are playing for Team U.S.A. Early morning on the 12th, the U.S. women’s hockey team will meet its archrival, Canada, on the ice. You won’t want to miss this one—things get heated whenever these two teams meet, and they’re even known for getting into fights with each other.

Catch New England figure-skating duo Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir vie for Olympic gold this week in the pairs competition. No matter how they fare, the two will leave the Olympic Games with a bronze medal in the brand-new team competition. Watch these national champions on one of 40 screens at Champions.

Root for the Bruins (Sort Of) at The Fours
Seven of our very own Boston Bruins are in Sochi, and while they might not all be playing for Team U.S.A., we should still show our Boston pride by sticking close to the Garden. On Thursday, February 13, U.S. Men’s Hockey plays against Slovakia; the Bruins’s captain Zdeno Chara will serve as captain for the Slovaks. Also keep an eye out for games with Canada, Finland, and the Czech Republic—Bruins center Patrice Bergeron was named to Canada’s Olympic team for the second time, coach Claude Julien joins Bergeron on the Canada team as an assistant coach, goalie Tuukka Rask will play for Finland, and center David Krejci will play for the Czech Republic.

Bar Olympics at Mass Ave Tavern
Always wanted to be an Olympian but never wanted to work out? Get off the couch, lazy. This is your chance to go for gold in Bubble Hockey, Fooseball, Jenga, and more. If you don’t want to play, stop by anyway to draw a Sochi Olympian’s name. If they win their event—you win a prize. The bar will show all the Olympics that NBC has to offer.
