Boston Medical Center (BMC) recently teamed up with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Boredom Busters, a non-profit that aims to cure the “boredom epidemic” affecting pediatric patients in local hospitals, to bring a splash of color to the usually bland walls of the hospital.

Boredom Busters provided funding for the project, which provided supplies and brought the art students to BMC’s pediatric emergency department. There, the students painted beautiful storybook illustrations as murals on the walls of more than 10 rooms.

BMC first collaborated with Boredom Busters in 2010 when the non-profit donated toys and games to pediatric patients. To date, the group has generated $40,000 for pediatric programs and capital projects such as The Crayon Program, where each patient receives crayons, and the Birthday Program, where patients in the hospital receive special gift on their birthdays.

“We are truly thankful to Boredom Busters and to the creative and talented students at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for bringing the walls to life with wonderful art, which will truly lift the spirits of our patients and their families,” said Stephanie Sharp, a certified child life specialist at BMC.
