Sons of Serendip Are in the Finals of America’s Got Talent [Updated]
Update, September 18, 10 p.m.: Sons of Serendip came in fourth place. Magician Mat Franco won the million bucks, but it was AGT host Nick Cannon who wore $2 million diamond-encrusted shoes, so as to remind even the winner that the prize money for America’s Got Talent is chump change to him.
We already knew Boston had talent, but now audiences of America’s Got Talent know it, too.
Earlier this summer, four BU grads from Boston showed up at the season 9 auditions for AGT in New York.
Vocalist Micah Christian (Master of Divinity), pianist and guitarist Cordaro Rodriguez (Juris Doctorate), harpist Mason Morton (Master of Music), and cellist-composer-vocalist Kendall Ramseur (Master of Music) called themselves Sons of Serendip and wowed the judges with a performance of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know.”
As a fellow BU alum, judge Howard Stern connected with Sons of Serendip, though he’s expressed multiple times throughout the season that he hates the name of their group, which comes from the Persian story “The Three Princes of Serendip.”
Despite the show having plenty of other razzle-dazzle dance acts and opera singers who typically find more success on AGT, the understated Sons of Serendip have found their own way into the finale.
During their final competitive performances on Tuesday night’s episode, the band performed “Somewhere Only We Know” again, followed by Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life” (above).
While the group will have to beat out a suave magician and an acrobatic army among others, the Sons of Serendip could very well win $1 million during the finale of AGT Wednesday evening.
And even if they don’t, let’s be a little cheesy and say they’re winners already. It’s like judge Heidi Klum said, “I would buy your album now.”
The finale of America’s Got Talent season 9 airs Wednesday night at 8 p.m. In the meantime, check out more of Sons of Serendip’s performances from the show below.
