OK, so you’ve already gone apple-picking. Everyone goes apple-picking. Well, while apples may be the fruit of most people’s eyes, another delicious treat is also ripe for the harvesting this month: the cranberry.

The cranberry, in fact, is Massachusetts’ state berry, and with Thanksgiving just around the bend, there’s no better time than the present to tour local bogs and learn all about this antioxidant-rich “superfruit.”

Those looking for a more festive way to celebrate cranberry season, look no further than the annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration in Wareham this weekend.

The 2014 festival—hosted by the A.D. Makepeace Company and co-sponsored by the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ Association and Ocean Spray Cranberries—will offer visitors cranberry harvest demos, cooking demos, crafts, paddleboat rides, food, music, and more. The event even made American Bus Association’s list of the Top 100 Events to check out in 2013.

The 2014 Cranberry Harvest Celebration festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., rain or shine, at the A.D. Makepeace Company Headquarters at Tihonet Village, 158 Tihonet Road, Wareham.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and military, free for kids under 7. Parking is free. Visit ADmakepeace.com for more more info.
