In the face of ceaseless bad weather, parking bans, and issues with public transportation, Boston’s restaurant community is banding together to offer savings as a way to build support for the industry. Starting this week, you can find dining deals on social media using the hashtag #DigOutDineOut.

The industry-wide collaboration was created by Kevin Long, executive chef and partner at Big Night Entertainment Group (Empire, Red Lantern, GEM). Joining him are several top restaurants and hospitality firms in Boston and Cambridge, including The Varano Group (Strega, Nico, Strega Waterfront, Strip), Aquitaine Group (Aquitaine Boston, Aquitaine Chestnut Hill, Aquitaine Dedham, Cinquecento Trattoria, Gaslight Brasserie, Metropolis Cafe), Trade, Island Creek Oyster Bar, Row 34, Himmell (Harvest, Grill 23, Post 390), Zocalo, Oak Long Bar, Bastille, J.J. Foley’s, Glynn Hospitality Group (Granary Tavern, Black Rose, Sterling’s, Coogans, Clery’s, Brownstone, Hurricane O’Reilly’s, Central Wharf Company, Dillon’s), Jerry Remy’s Fenway, Estragon, CityBar at the Lenox, Davio’s, Kennedy’s On the Square, the Blue Room and Belly. The Massachusetts Restaurant Association is also supporting the effort.

“The Massachusetts Restaurant Association applauds this and all efforts to bring much-needed business to Boston’s hospitality industry,” MRA President and CEO Bob Luz said via a press release. “Local restaurants are facing serious economic consequences after six days of widespread closures during a traditionally slow period. We encourage Bostonians to embrace winter and dine out locally. Your neighbors are our employees, and restaurants are the cornerstones of neighborhoods throughout the city. We are grateful to everyone who helps ensure the continued success of Boston’s incredible hospitality community.”

Here are just a few specials already being offered as part of #DigOutDineOut:

  • $2 tacos Sunday through Wednesday at Zocalo
  • $5 Lobster Miso Soup and $25 unlimited sushi Monday through Thursday at Empire
  • $1 oysters and $3 Stella Artois drafts at GEM
  • $5 after-work cocktails at Red Lantern

And remember, as of today (February 18),  you can still take advantage Boston magazine’s #Thanks4Boston campaign, which is offering $10,000 worth of gift certificates at local restaurants like Catalyst, Deuxave, and some other to-be-announced destinations.
