First Boston Island Creek Oyster Fest Coming in September

Skip Bennett has announced that he’s bringing his Island Creek Oyster Festival to Boston for the first time ever this year. Until 2012, Massachusetts’ preeminent oyster farm celebrated all things bivalves in the confines of its Duxbury home, but Bennett has decided to go much bigger this summer.

Taking place September 19 at The Lawn on D in South Boston’s Innovation District, the Island Creek Oyster Festival will feature fare from 30 acclaimed chefs from Boston and around the country, several live bands, food trucks, and tens of thousands of oysters harvested by farms throughout the northeast. Not only will the event will be a cultural culmination of food, art, and music, a portion of the proceeds will go toward benefitting the Island Creek Oyster Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides education and supports initiatives in favor of responsible, sustainable aquaculture.

“As a company, we believe in aquaculture – it’s the core of our livelihood,” explains president of Island Creek Oysters Chris Sherman via a press release. “For so many people around the world – it’s a path to uninterrupted access to nutritious, sustainably grown food. We’re excited that the Island Creek Oyster Festival will highlight these programs by bringing our friends in food and music together through a fun-filled city event.”
