Mark Wahlberg hopes Pope Francis will forgive him for making raunchy, R-rated movies like Ted.

The Boston-bred actor and devout Catholic jokingly made his plea for forgiveness to the pontiff while hosting the World Meeting of Families event in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Wahlberg gave his impromptu confession to Pope Francis following a stellar, solo performance by a young singer who revealed to the actor backstage that he was a big fan of his work in Ted.

“That was truly the voice of an angel,” Wahlberg said. “But then he whispered in my ear that he loved the movie Ted, and I told him that was not appropriate for a boy of his age.”

“Holy Father please forgive me,” the Dorchester native added while addressing the pontiff. “I’ve always hoped that the good Lord has a sense of humor when it comes and pertains to many of the movies that I’ve made.”

Wahlberg may need to ask Patriots nation for forgiveness as well.

The actor and Tom Brady superfan yelled “Go Eagles!” during his introduction for former running back Herb Lusk, who is now a pastor.

The Philadelphia shout out doesn’t come as that big of a surprise as Wahlberg played famed Eagles wide receiver Vince Papale in the 2006 sports drama Invincible.

However, don’t expect Wahlberg to yell “Go Eagles!” again when the Patriots takes on the Eagles at Gillette Stadium on December 6.
