Villa Mexico Café Reopens in Downtown Boston
Villa Mexico Café makes its triumphant return to the Boston restaurant scene today, Boston Restaurant Talk first reported. The new café, opening in the Financial District, is the new incarnation of Mexico City native Julie King’s well-regarded takeout spot, previously located inside Grampy’s Gas before it was slated for demolition in 2013.
With a trademark graciousness for all her “friends” who visit her restaurant, “Momma King” serves authentic Mexican fare based on her family recipes. Grilled burritos are filled with chicken, beef, carnitas, chorizo, or the house’s mole poblano sauce; and there are tacos, flautas, quesadillas, tamales, tostadas, and burrito bowls. King also offers a unique cactus salad, as well as sweets like traditional, chocolate, coffee, or vanilla flan; and tres leches cake.
King has kept up her chops over the past two years catering and selling her homemade salsa.
The new café is first and foremost a takeout spot, but it has a dozen seats inside, too, according to BRT. Villa Mexico serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It debuted at 9 a.m. today, but going forward, its open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays.
