Photos from Big Air Fenway 2016—Day One: Snowboarding

Some of the world’s best snowboarders were in Boston on Thursday for the first night of Big Air Fenway, the U.S. Grand Prix tour competition that placed a 140-feet ramp in the middle of the beloved ball field.
With big air snowboarding making its Olympic debut in 2018, Big Air Fenway was an especially exciting sight to behold. Crowds braved below-freezing temperatures and fast winds to watch snowboarders compete. And although the crowds thinned as the weather got worse, enough people stuck around for a rousing rendition of “Sweet Caroline” near the end of the event.
For the women, Julia Marino won first place, Jenna Blasman came in second, and Brooke Voigt was in third. Max Parrot took first place for the men, with Michael Ciccarelli finishing second and Charles Guldemond taking third.
After the snowboarding competition and awards ceremony, Bad Rabbits performed to close out the evening.
The skiing portion of the competition begins Friday night. In the meantime, here are some photos from day one of Big Air Fenway:
