Cambridge doughnut lovers, rejoice: Union Square Donuts are bringing the best doughnuts around to Inman Square. The company announced a satellite location will debut this Friday, March 4 at 7 a.m.

Co-owners Heather Schmidt and Josh Danoff are leasing a small space on Cambridge Street from next door neighbor, Clover. The deal is for two months, but the Cambridge satellite could stick around longer than that, depending on its reception, says Schmidt.

People of Cambridge, your donut time has come! Starting THIS Friday, we’ll be at 1075 Cambridge St, right next to…

“Cambridge, although it’s close, mileage-wise, it’s a different neighborhood,” she says. “A lot of folks can’t get over to Union Square.”

When the duo moved Union Square Donuts to its current location at 20 Bow St., it was to take advantage of a larger, more efficient kitchen, and ultimately increase their doughnut production. At the time, they alluded to potential satellite locations; in 2015, they opened inside the Boston Public Market, and their products are also available Monday-Friday at Triangle Coffee at the Innovation & Design Center shipping container smorgasbord. The team is currently firming up its schedule of spring and summer farmers markets’, Schmidt adds.

“The endgame is having more doughnuts out in the world that make people happy,” Schmidt says. “The Boston Public Market has been really great, because we’re part of something really new, exciting, and forward thinking in Boston … There are a lot of businesses downtown and we’re getting our regulars who come in to buy a dozen doughnuts for their office. They wouldn’t otherwise come into Union Square Donuts to do that.”

The Cambridge outpost will have an array of Union Square favorites, including the Boston cream pie doughnut, brown butter hazelnut crunch, and the maple bacon. Seasonal choices, like birthday cake, and a “bright, citrusy, and lovely” orange cardamom poppy, and vegan doughnuts will also be in the Cambridge rotation, as well as a new Union Square product, the “doughie.” USD introduced the doughie in February to celebrate its third birthday. It’s a light, fluffy, three-bite ball of its doughnut dough, glazed and topped with variations on its classic toppings.

There won’t be any coffee available on Cambridge Street—Schmidt says USD will encourage guests to pop into Clover for their caffeine fix. They will carry Spindrift sodas and seltzers, though.

Beginning Friday, Union Square Doughnuts will be open daily in Cambridge, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.—or until all the doughnuts are gone.
