Red Sox Prospect Fractures Hand Fighting Teammate

Red Sox pitching prospect Michael Kopech fractured his right hand in a fight with a teammate, as first reported by WEEI and later confirmed by general manager Mike Hazen. He was spotted at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, with a cast on his throwing arm.
“It was stupid,” Hazen told WEEI. “He’s going to have to grow up, obviously, with the things that have happened so far. He’s got a long road to go to get to the big leagues. He obviously has a ton of potential. He’s got a long way to go. These types of things, you don’t want to put more barriers in front of you than playing professional baseball already presents you.”
The Red Sox selected Kopech, who turns 20 next month, in the first round of the 2014 draft. Kopech was suspended 50 games in 2015 for using Oxilofrine, a stimulant prohibited in the minors.
