Pi Day in Boston: Events, Deals, and Specials in 2016
If there were ever a time we needed pie on a Monday, it’s today, March 14, 2016—the Monday after Daylight Saving Time forced us to spring forward. Well, ain’t no pity party like a Pi Day pity party. Get over that lost hour by celebrating the most famous mathematical constant of all, pi. Here are some deals and special activities happening around town this year:
Pi Day Competition at Petsi Pies
How many digits of pi can you recite? It begins with 3.14159, so of course Petsi Pies’ annual recitation competition will begin at 1:59 p.m. today. List 10 digits and win a cutie pie, 314 digits for a gift certificate for a large pie, and 628 digits for a free pie every season.
1:59 p.m., 285 Beacon St., Somerville, 617-661-7437, petsipies.com.
Pies at Rosebud American Kitchen & Bar
It’s never a bad idea to pick up some pies from Rosebud, but today the diner will offer a couple of extra specials just for Pi Day—mini banana creams with caramel drizzle and mini blueberry crumbles. Plus, stop by for special pie milkshakes starting at 5 p.m.
10:30 a.m.-1 a.m., 381 Summer St., Somerville, 617-629-9500, rosebudkitchen.com.
$3.14 Flatbreads at Salvatore’s
While we’re bummed Beacon Hill Bistro won’t be selling $3.14 pie slices this year, Salvatore’s will once again celebrate National Pi Day by offering $3.14 flatbreads.
Available at the bar only, 5-9 p.m., multiple locations, Facebook.

MIT Admissions Decisions
Every year, MIT hopefuls discover their fate on Pi Day. Last year, the school teased that the announcement would be via drone. This year, they had some fun playing off Star Wars. May the force be with you, applicants. Decisions will be available online at 6:28 p.m.
Meanwhile, Harvard Can’t Be Bothered
The math department points out that students are on spring break during Pi Day this year. Consider watching these six movies instead—they all mention the number pi.
