Sneak a Peek at Lone Star East’s Deep Ellum-Inspired Patio

Lone Star Taco Bar’s Cambridge patio is now open.

Here’s another reason to get excited for patio season to kick off for real: Construction is now underway on an oasis at Lone Star Taco Bar in East Cambridge. The seasonal seating area could debut as early as mid-April, Lone Star co-owner Max Toste says.
The walled-in structure will sit in front of Lone Star, with a pathway for Cambridge Street pedestrians between the restaurant and the patio. It’s designed by architect Elvin Phillips, who worked on the East Cambridge interior and assisted the architect that built sister restaurant Deep Ellum’s patio. Justin Kelly Contracting in Cambridge is building it offsite, and the structure will be fully removable when the season ends, per city of Cambridge sidewalk zoning regs, Toste says.
The steel frame is enclosed in ipe, a Brazilian hardwood, and it will also be insulated with greenery: either fixed window boxes, or potentially hanging plants.
“It’s inspired by the deck we built at Deep Ellum a few years back,” Toste says. “We want to make it feel like you’re not just sitting at a table on the street, because it’s a busy street.”
The outdoor dining room has bench seating for 29, and you’ll be able to sip your Lucha Libre and share a plate of Dallas spicy beef tacos al fresco nightly until 1 a.m.
