Comedy Central Greenlights Barstool Sports Live Event Series
Barstool Sports is heading to a television near you this winter.
Comedy Central announced this week that it has greenlit an event series from the popular and controversial sports website, which will air live from Houston the week before the Super Bowl. The Barstool Rundown: Live From Houston show kicks off on Monday, January 30, at midnight, and will be broadcasted daily through Thursday, February 2.
According to a press release, the “half-hour sports comedy specials” will mark Barstool Sports’ first dive into long-form TV. The series will also feature founder David “El Pres” Portnoy, as well as personalities Dan Katz and Kevin Clancy, as they chat about all things football from a Houston bar leading up to this year’s big game.
“Some of my best life decisions have been made while sitting on a barstool,” Comedy Central president Kent Alterman said in a statement. “I’m hoping this is one of them.”
In addition to releasing an announcement video, Portnoy took to his website to express his excitement over the news.
Well Superbowl week is shaping up as a kinda of a big week for Barstool huh? The Pats are going to win their 5th Lombardi Trophy. Barstool has not 1 but 2 houses in Houston. And oh yeah The Rundown is going to be live, not fake live, but real live on a little network called Comedy Central. Ever heard of it? #prayforeverybody
Following a huge 2016, it looks like 2017 is shaping up to be a good year for the Barstool brand.
“El Pres” made a pretty penny after he sold his majority stake in the company to the Chernin Group last January. The site also named former AOL Chief Marketing Officer Erika Nardini as its new CEO in July.
