Legal Sea Foods started as a counter-service spot in Inman Square, and the company’s latest venture is going back to those casual roots. Legal Fish Bowl, an offshoot concept tucked within Legal’s restaurant in Kendall Square, starts serving seasonal, seafood-centered salad and grain bowls today.

The menu has six signature dishes, like Tunanimous Choice, with sesame-ginger tuna poké, charred broccoli, kimchi, radishes, and seaweed salad atop jasmine rice; and Noodle It Over Shrimp, with marinated shrimp, portobello, rainbow carrots, spicy roasted sweet potatoes, and more over lo mein noodles. Guests can also make their own bowls with five base options, seven optional proteins, and various dressings. There are a few vegetarian bowls, and one with chicken, too, as well as house-made beverages. Check out the debut menu below.

The glorified salad bar takes over a former private dining room at the Kendall Legal. The redesign includes floor-to-ceiling windows—so you feel like you’re in a fish bowl—and a custom light fixture inspired by the bottom on a canoe.

Unsurprisingly, that location of Legal Sea Foods has always had “disproportionately” busy lunch service, so Legal is testing out a potential fast-casual brand there, a representative previously told Boston. So, do not be surprised if the company takes a deep dive into the ever-growing quick-service sector.

Legal Fish Bowl is open daily from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
