State Park, Mamaleh’s Debut the Tropical Bar by the Elevator

With some hot and sunny days finally in the forecast, One Kendall Square has a brand new reason to be stoked about patio season. The Bar by the Elevator debuts tonight from the professionals behind State Park and Mamaleh’s.

Located—you guessed it—right by the elevator outside the team’s Jewish-style deli, the Bar by the Elevator is a new concept from co-owners Rachel Miller Munzer, Alon Munzer, Evan Harrison, Heather Mojer, Tyler and Rachel Sundet, and John Kessen.

The drinks program, created by bar manager Harrison, is “inspired by and dedicated to the places in the world where the shadows are long and the ground is warm,” according to the team’s email newsletter.

“The idea is to be a good spot for after-work drinks, or before- or after-dinner in the area,” Harrison says.

Expect rosé and a rotating beer on draft; to start, it’s Narragansett Del’s Shandy. Notch’s Left of the Dial session IPA and Jack’s Abby House Lager cans will be in the bamboo-wrapped fridge, and there will also be sangria and tiki drinks, like a Painkiller, and a Martinique-style Planter’s Punch. Chef Tyler Sundet is also creating a Bar by the Elevator-exclusive menu of hot dogs, and guests can order from a selection of Mamaleh’s sides, he adds.

The Bar by the Elevator is “lighthearted and casual,” Harrison says, with a capacity of 24. There’s seating for about 12 people, as well as standing room, he says.

It isn’t the only new place to drink outside in One Kendall Square: In addition to the expansive patio outside the Smoke Shop, Cambridge Brewing Company recently added “the SwigPen” to its outdoor dining space, a drinks-only pavilion with recycled barrels employed as standing tables.

The Bar by the Elevator will open, weather-permitting, most evenings at 4 p.m., and earlier on Saturdays and Sundays.
