Field & Vine Will Make the Food at Backbar
Field & Vine is opening in the former home of Journeyman later this summer, but as soon as next week, diners can get a taste of chef Andrew Brady’s cuisine in Union Square. Beginning July 6, the forthcoming restaurant will provide sustenance to accompany the award-winning cocktails at Backbar.
Like Journeyman did for its sister spot, all of the bar food will be made on the restaurant’s equipment. Backbar is open Tuesday-Saturday from 4 p.m.-midnight, and food will be available from 5-10 p.m., says Field & Vine’s Sara Markey.
Check out a sample menu below, with bites like a spicy, crispy chicken sandwich, and fromage fort (a French cheese spread). Sadly, it appears we have to officially bid farewell to the Backbar staple spicy caramel popcorn, but ranch popcorn sounds like a worthy replacement. Markey also reports there will be specials, “and possibly secret sandwiches” at limited times. Stay tuned for more whisperings in that regard.
Scout Somerville reports that Backbar is returning the favor and will create a cocktail menu at Field & Vine. The soon-to-open restaurant is the first brick-and-mortar restaurant from the couple behind Company Picnic, a pop-up that fueled events at Night Shift Brewing, Journeyman, and more. Both Brady and Markey are alums of Bronwyn, and they live in Union Square.
Renovations on the restaurant space are slated to begin in July, and they won’t affect the kitchen, Markey says. The couple is 91 percent to their $25,000 goal on Kickstarter, which will help stock the pantry and coolers for the restaurant to open. Fingers crossed that everything goes as planned, Markey says, and Field & Vine could open in August.
