Passengers on the MBTA’s Green Line were forced to step off the train and traipse through a tunnel Wednesday afternoon after a power outage ground the subway train to a halt.

A Twitter user who was on the train shared photos of commuters walking under what she said was the stretch between Boylston and Park station. “Omg the train powered off. Its disabled,” she wrote just before 1 p.m.

The T says the outage happened at Boylston. Service was suspended between Arlington and Government Center for hours before the T reported that a regular schedule resumed at 4:45 p.m.

“Green Line supervisors are investigating and we appreciate your patience while we work to resume service as quickly & safely as possible,” the agency tweeted at 1:30 p.m.

The T also reported an unrelated medical emergency on the Red Line at Park Street, which it said was not impacting service.

At 3:26 p.m., as rush hour ticked closer, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo tweeted a picture of crews working to fix overhead wires and get trains running again.

On the bright side, commuters did get a chance to walk through the tunnel, which is a pretty rare opportunity. Especially in the oldest section of the oldest subway in America. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, congrats!
