Heather Unruh Says Kevin Spacey Sexually Assaulted Her Son in Nantucket

Saying her family has been emboldened by women speaking out against powerful abusive men, former Boston news anchor Heather Unruh on Wednesday came forward with a detailed allegation that actor Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted her teenaged son last summer in Nantucket.

Unruh in a press conference revealed that her son has filed a report with the Nantucket Police Department alleging that the House of Cards star groped him at the Club Car Restaurant in Nantucket in July of 2016, sticking his hand down her 18-year-old son’s pants and grabbing his genitals after buying him several drinks at the upscale eatery.

“My son was a star-struck, straight, 18-year-old young man who had no idea that the famous actor was an alleged sexual predator, or that he was about to become his next victim,” a teary-eyed Unruh said. “Kevin Spacey bought him drink after drink after drink. And when my son was drunk, Spacey made his move and sexually assaulted him.”

Spacey invited him to leave the bar and head to a party, Unruh says. But a bystander who noticed something was wrong intervened when Spacey left her son alone to go to the bathroom, and “told him to run as fast as he could.” Unruh says she hopes that woman will get in touch with her so she can thank her in person.

Her son was embarrassed and afraid, so did not report the incident to the police, Unruh says. In the time since, her family has “had sleepless nights and tremendous anger and anxiety” about the incident, she says. Her son, now a sophomore in college, has never gotten over it. “He has tried his best to deal with it,” she says. “He says it’s always there and it continues to bother him.”

Unruh first made allegations that Spacey had assaulted a family member with an October 13 tweet. “I was a Kevin Spacey fan until he assaulted a loved one,” she wrote. “Time the dominoes fell.”

At the press conference, she praised for their bravery the women who came forward with allegations against Weinstein, and also Anthony Rapp, an actor who has accused Spacey of making sexual advances toward him when he was 14.

On Wednesday, she had a clear message for Spacey: “Shame on you.”

“Shame on you for what you did to my son,” she says. “And shame on you for using your apology to Anthony Rapp to come out as a gay man. That was an appalling attempt to deflect attention away from what you really are: A sexual predator. Your actions are criminal.”

In recent weeks, a growing list of stories have emerged accusing Spacey of preying on young men over decades, including allegations of attempted rape. In light of the allegations, Spacey has said he is seeking treatment.
