Spaces: Urban Oasis
A once cramped and dimly lit Beacon Hill home is topped off with a dreamy sunroom.
The Problem
Tight quarters and a lack of light had a couple hoping to brighten their converted carriage house with a sunny indoor-outdoor space.
The Solution
To develop a lush retreat that conjures warmer climes, the team at Hickox Williams Architects constructed a sunroom atop the house. A movable glass wall not only floods the room with natural light, but also creates a transition to the adjoining roof deck. Leafy green wallpaper and upholstery, paired with white oak paneling, injects vibrance into the space, even on chilly evenings. “It’s a whimsical statement about creating an imaginary exterior,” says partner Patrick Hickox. “A kind of tropical environment in our wintry Boston.”
