Watch As Water Rushes Into The Shops At the Prudential Center
Not long after the snow stopped blanketing the Boston area on Friday, a significant amount of water came cascading through the ceiling, and into the the Shops at the Prudential Center, right outside of a Chico’s clothing store.
The cause of the water damage came from a burst pipe that cracked because of the freezing cold, according to Boston Fire Department officials. A bystander captured the waterfall-like scene on his phone, and sent the footage to Boston.
“They cleared out that area but not the whole mall. [The] Boston Fire Department responded as well,” said Nick Ford, who took the video. “Not too sure what happened.”
In the video, shocked workers and shoppers can be heard gasping and snickering as the flow of water comes pouring into the Prudential retail plaza. Shops like Chico’s and Vineyard Vine, both located directly near the flooding, did not immediately return calls.
Others in the mall started Tweeting about the flooding:
The mall remained opened Friday afternoon as crews cleared up the South Plaza area, where the flooding occurred.
The flooding meant some people didn’t have to show up for work, however.
