Jenny Dell Leaves Red Sox Sidelines After Will Middlebrooks Relationship Goes Public
We wrote weeks back that Red Sox sideline reporter Jenny Dell should cut ties with NESN when she went public with her relationship with Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks. And it looks like NESN finally made some moves.
According to the Globe, Jenny Dell was informed by NESN’s vice president of programming and production Joseph Maar that she would not be part of the Red Sox broadcast team this season. Spokesman Gary Roy confirmed this in a statement:
“NESN has an active search for a Red Sox sideline reporter. Jenny Dell, a multi-talented on-air personality, is anchoring NESN Sports Today and handling other assignments for NESN.”
As the Red Sox prepare for spring training during the off-season, Dell has been filling in as an anchor on “NESN Sports Today.” An in-studio position has been working well for her, but it was only now that the silence was broken. Representatives from NESN as well as Dell and Middlebrooks declined to comment until Roy’s statement yesterday.
It’s been a full month since their relationship went public when Dell and Middlebrooks tweeted on New Years Eve, so it is hard to accept that NESN was newly informed by this information. But since Dell’s removal from the sidelines as of yesterday, it’s clear that the backlash she received from the press in terms of conflicts of interest affected the continuity of her position.
