TBS Orders Comedy Pilot from Will & Grace Creators
A show about people working at a barbershop in Charlestown? Sounds like the premise for yet another tired, trashy, just-shoot-me-now Boston-based reality show. But before you yawn and click away, what if I told you this one’s a comedy by the creators of Will & Grace?
Got your attention, eh?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Kohan and Max Mutchnick just landed a pilot order at TBS for a new comedy series. The project is called Clipsters, and it centers around a group of people who went to high school together and now all work in Charlestown cutting hair.
Kohan and Mutchnick are best known as the creators of the hit series Will & Grace (1998-2006). Since then, the duo has also given us Partners (2012-2013) and $#*! My Dad Says (2010-2011), but neither resonated with audiences the way Will & Grace did.
So why pitch a show set in Charlestown? Well, one possibility is familiarity. Mutchnick is a graduate of Emerson College, and he’s one of the school’s most popular graduates. He lends his name to Emerson’s Max Mutchnick Campus Center and even donated the set of Will & Grace to the school. It’s now on display in the library.
It’s certainly too early to tell if Kohan and Mutchnick’s new project will be a winner or a loser, but hey, barbershops are funny in the movies, so why can’t they be interesting on television?
