Tired of stuffy grocery stores, big corporations, and produce that’s been sitting on the shelf for weeks? Then head to a farmers’ market. We searched the Greater Boston area to find some of the best markets that the spring and summer seasons have to offer. Below, our roundup:

Boston Public Market

The Boston Public Market Association is currently working on building a year-round permanent market. While we wait, the association is hosting two farmers’ markets this spring. One is along the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the other is at the future home of the permanent market.

Harvard Farmers’ Market

Get smart by eating some locally-made brain food brought to you by Harvard University. This market features fresh produce, fish, baked goods, and other local treats.

Copley Square Farmers’ Market

Copley Square is already home to some of Boston’s most famous architecture, and on Tuesdays and Fridays it also hosts a vibrant market that attracts vendors from all over Massachusetts.

Are you a history buff? In colonial times, Salem used to host a farmers’ market. The modern-day revival of this historic tradition returns to downtown Salem for its sixth season on June 12th.

Brookline Farmers’ Market

The Brookline Farmers’ Market has the most convenient hours of them all, starting at 1:30 p.m., and lasting until dusk, which means that some vendors will stay as late as 8 p.m.

Watertown Farmers’ Market 

Watertown is a picturesque city outside of Boston, so it’s about time they started a farmers’ market. Watertown will introduce its first ever farmers’ market in June which will include music, weekly events, and monthly skill-shares.

New England Open Markets

New England Open Markets host three spring markets in Cambridge, Greenway, and SoWa. In addition to the fresh produce and handmade artisan products at these markets, you can also enjoy food from some of Boston’s finest food trucks.

Hingham Farmers’ Market

Braintree Farmers’ Market

In addition to the diverse array of products available at the Braintree Farmers’ Market, there will also be special events throughout the season. This includes: strawberry day (June 21), where many of the vendors will create special strawberry products, and a clam and lobster feast (August 30) with made to order clam chowder, lobster rolls, and more.
