Hulk Hogan Will Flex Some Muscle at Assembly Square
Guess what, brother? Hulk Hogan is coming to Somerville.
On Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. until noon, Hollywood Hogan himself will be flexing some muscle with wrestling fans, and hanging out at the brand new gym adjacent to Assembly Square.
“Hulk is a real good friend of the owners. They have been good friends for over 30 years,” said Joanne Sullivan, manager at the Assembly Sports Club. “He’s very kind to come and host our grand opening here.”
Sullivan said the company just made some significant upgrades to their locations in Tewksbury and Somerville, and rebranded their company name. The Hulk’s celebrity appearance coincides with the opening of the two new facilities under a different moniker.
She said the world-championship wrestler will be in Somerville meeting fans during the first half of the day, before he heads over to a bigger event at the gym in Tewksbury, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. “The fans are ready, the staff is ready, the people are ready. And it’s gonna be a party so get there early to secure a good spot in line and to get some of free giveaways, goodie bags, T-shirts and more,” the company said on their event page.
Sullivan told Boston that Hogan is pals with gym owner Pat Catino, and the two have a history together. When Catino announced that he was going to be revamping his business, Hogan apparently was immediately on board to help promote.
“Before Hulk was big, Pat would work out at the gym with him, and have him over for supper,” said Sullivan. “When we told him about the grand opening, he said, ‘absolutely, brother. I’m there.’”
Sullivan said Catino recently put $1 million worth of upgrades into the Tewksbury gym, and spent $400,000 on new strength-training equipment in Somerville. The gym in Assembly Square also now features personal training and boxing, and they are in the midst of designing an aerobics room.
“It’s really exciting for us,” said Sullivan.
