All the News That’s Fit to Eat
Keeping track of Boston’s dining scene can feel almost as daunting as nabbing a table at Miracle of Science. Chowder scours the internet for the latest news on what’s coming and the loss of a great innovator.
Opening
Old-school Italian favorite Cafe Marliave will be reopened by Grotto, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. Boston.com’s Dishing blog has the details.
“The Marliave will reopen this spring and will feature two dining rooms and an oyster bar. The menus will reflect the history of the establishment, which has operated as a French, Italian, and New England restaurant, and even as a speakeasy and illegal distillery (liquor and label print equipment was seized many times during Prohibition). . . .”
We love a restaurant with street cred.
Tia’s on the Waterfront is hiring staff in preparation for the summer months. If you enjoy serving tourists and overgrown frat boys, you’re encouraged to apply.
Scampo, the new Lydia Shire restaurant at the Liberty Hotel, opens to the general public tomorrow. Look for an Italian-themed menu with plenty of ambition and extra flourishes (i.e. what Shire does best).
The good news? UBurger is opening a second location in April. The bad news? It’s on the Boston University campus. Whatever. We’ll go to the ends of the earth for those juicy burgers.
Even our chocolate stores are going green. Aroa Fine Chocolate brings seven kinds of hot chocolate and fair-trade chocolates inspired by European favorites to the South End this week.
Events
Never has charity been so sweet. Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer brings your favorite restaurants and bakeries together to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The event kicks off with a party on May 1.
Off to Those Golden Arches in the Sky
Chowder would like to mark the passing of Herb Peterson, the man who brought us the Egg McMuffin. Sure, it’s not healthy or particularly delicious. But when you’ve had one too many glasses of wine, there’s nothing better.
