Amy Poehler’s New Book Yes Please Completes Multiple Comedy Trifectas

In Pixar’s forthcoming animated movie Inside Out, Amy Poehler will voice the lead character of Joy, the literal embodiment of glee, cheer, and all things happy-go-lucky in the head of an 11-year-old girl.

Is there any character that sounds more appropriate for Poehler?

The comedy genius known for SNL and Parks and Recreation brings smiles to people’s faces wherever she goes and whomever she portrays, whether it be a bitter Hillary Rodham Clinton, the unstoppable civil servant Leslie Knope, Regina George’s mom in Mean Girls, or as herself (or a version of herself) while hosting the Golden Globes with partner in crime Tina Fey.

No wonder her October 29 event with Harvard Book Store sold out in an hour.

While Poehler’s fans have to wait until June 2015 to hear her voice Joy in Inside Out, the Burlington native’s memoir will be out October 28. Yes Please, Poehler’s highly anticipated book, will round out two trifectas you’ve been waiting for:

The first is the section of your bookshelf labeled “Funny Women We Idolize and Wish We Were More Like Because They’re Freaking Amazing” (or something like that). Yes Please will fit snugly in the slot between Tiny Fey’s Bossypants and Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns).

The second is Harvard Book Store’s collection of “Boston Natives Who’ve Gone On to Star in a Golden Age of NBC Comedies.” Office alums B.J. Novak, a Newton native, and Mindy Kaling, from Cambridge, both promoted their books at HBS as well. Surely Poehler could one-up this photo:

Poehler’s event with HBS will take place at the Back Bay Events Center in Boston, where she will chat with her high school English teacher Kathy Dalton.

What was Amy Poehler like at age 14, we wonder? Something tells us her alma maters Burlington High and Boston College had no idea just how far this bubbly freshman would go.
