The Clinton Foundation Is Hosting a Health ‘Codeathon’ in Boston
The Clinton Foundation is hosting a women’s mental health ‘codeathon’ in order to shed light on serious health matters and to invite invention and innovation into a field often overlooked by other health issues.
In conjunction with the Innovation Hub at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and MIT Hacking Medicine—two local research institutions that are “disrupting medicine” every day with their own “hacking” events—the Clinton Foundation will host the second “Women’s Health Codeathon” November 7 to 9 at BWH. The series’ first event was held in New York City in August 2014.
The event brings together female designers and developers and challenges them to design and build original apps focusing on three main areas: physical activity, nutrition, and mental health. The event will also include food from Sweetgreen and fitness classes from Equinox. All participants will also receive a wearable tracker from Jawbone to track their sleep and steps during the weekend event.
Speakers include:
Paula Johnson, M.D., Executive Director, Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology, and Chief of the Women’s Health Division, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Eric Braverman, CEO, Clinton Foundation; Kyra Bobinet, M.D., M.P.H., CEO of engagedIN. Judges for the competition include Lesley Solomon, Executive Director, Innovation Hub at Brigham & Women’s Hospital; Emily Hackel, External Relations Manager, McKinsey & Co.; Jess Kader, Principal Product Manager, Iora Health; Gina Vild, Chief Marketing Office, Harvard Medical School; and Dr. Gail Saltz, psychiatrist and health correspondent.
The winning team will receive a Mini Jambox by Jawbone and the opportunity to bring their winning prototype to market.
The public is invited to attend final presentations at the Shapiro Conference Center at 70 Francis Street at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on Sunday, November 9 at 4 p.m.
