Boston Brewin Coffee Opens City Hall Location

Mayor Marty Walsh has announced that Boston Brewin Coffee Company, a local organic coffee company, will begin selling coffee, tea, and small treats on the third floor mezzanine of City Hall starting today. The new venture is the latest effort by the Walsh administration to utilize public spaces inside and outside of City Hall. To usher in the new City Hall coffee shop, the mayor will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony between noon and 1 p.m.

During the coffee cart’s four-month trial period, Boston Brewin will supplement their selections of coffees with locally sourced pastries from the Haley House, Lyndell’s Bakery, and C and C Bakers of East Boston. The coffee cart, made of discarded school desks, will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“City Hall is the front door to local government, and I want everyone who visits to have a great experience,” said Walsh via a press release. “This is a small step we can take, which has a big impact, to activate the people’s public space and enhance constituent interactions with the City.”

Boston Brewin owners Daniel Cordon and Tom Barnes created their coffee company in 2011, sourcing shade-grown, fair trade beans from Dean’s Beans out of Orange, Massachusetts. The company is dedicated to only brewing organic, environmentally responsible coffee, providing livable wages to all their employees, and supporting the community through non-profits. Through a selection process, each customer gets to decide which non-profits receives 100 percent of the profits.
