Up Country Lets Wedding Style Go to the Dogs
When Spot and Fifi are part of your wedding ceremony, not just any collar will do. You want panache, style, and an “aw” factor for your furry friend’s attire.
Up Country’s “Canine Wedding Collection” has all that and more. You might say they put the “oo” in “pooch” for your dog’s walk down the aisle.
Donna Bodell, the vice president of this East Providence, Rhode Island, pet accessory business, considers adding a wedding line a natural extension of their already popular holiday accessories.
“We noticed that weddings were becoming increasingly personal, with brides attending to every detail for the big day, often including their dogs,” she explains. “There was a definite void in the market for collars and leads that would be more than just decorative. And so our first two collars, ‘Eternity’ and ‘Love and Cherish,’ were born.”
The Canine Wedding Collection has two nylon collar designs and five flower-adorned ruffs that are available in sizes XS through XXL. If you have a manly mutt, there’s a black-velvet ruff designed especially for the four-legged alphas in the wedding party.
When Alice Nichols started Up Country in 1984, the only dog collars available were nylon or leather with little or no decoration. Up Country now has over 120 collar designs and dozens of lifestyle accessories for discerning cats and dogs. They still hand-sew their collars and create most of their other products in their Rhode Island factory.
Bodell offers one really good fashion tip for including your pup in your ceremony. “Don’t try a new groomer just before the big day,” she says. “Sometimes puppy cuts can vary, and no one want a big surprise on their special day.”
