Check out the two-day indie film challenge that would stump James Cameron himself.

Welcome to Best of the Day, our daily recommendation for what to check out around town. If you do one thing in Boston today, consider this.

Werner Herzog may have managed the miracle of hauling a 320-ton steamship over an Amazonian mountain, but we bet there’s one cinematic challenge that would daunt the great master: the 48 Hour Film Project. Since 2001, legions of Red Bull-slamming filmmakers have written, cast, filmed, and edited mini-movies in the span of a single weekend. The cinematic equivalent of Chopped, competitors are handed the same grab-bag of weird requirements. For the 2015 Boston installment, each film must contain: a character named Shawn or Sharon Middleton (who’s required to be a “wordsmith”); ice used as a prop; and the line “This is the future.” View the supremely fast, cheap, and out-of-control results at the Kendall Square Cinema this week.

$11, May 5, 6, and 12, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Kendall Square Cinema, One Kendall Square, 355 Binney St., Cambridge, 617-621-1202, landmarktheatres.com.
