Quidditch

So what if your Hogwarts acceptance letter got lost in the mail? You can still live out your Quidditch fantasies right here in Boston. Many area colleges field teams, and there’s been a community team, aptly named The Massacre, playing in Brookline since 2013. Interested players are invited to grab a broom and drop by a practice to try it out.

Contact the team at QCBostonMassacre@gmail.com for more information.

Bike Polo

If biking to work just isn’t cutting it anymore, head to Allston and check out Boston Bike Polo, a sport actually more similar to hockey on a bike than polo. Anyone with a bike and a thirst for adrenaline is welcome to show up to the league‘s Wednesday night beginners’ events.

Boston Bike Polo plays year-round at the Smith Playground in Allston. New players can try the sport on beginners’ night, held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Glo Bocce

Ever played glow-in-the-dark bocce? You can now. Major League Bocce holds weekly Glo Bocce matches on the Common, as well as more standard games in Kenmore Square, Cambridge, and Somerville. Bar flys can also play once a week on the Atlantic Beer Garden’s patio.

Pickleball

It may be a sport most popular in nursing homes, but pickleball, essentially a cross between tennis and ping pong, is worth trying no matter your age. Leagues are common on the North Shore if you’re willing to travel, and weekly matches are held September through June at the Hawthorne Gym in Newton.

Matches are held at Hawthorne Gym, 11 Hawthorn St., Newton, on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m., from September through June. Register at newtonma.gov.

Bubble Soccer

Remember the rec soccer team you joined when you were 10? This is just like that—except players wear giant plastic bubbles. Boston’s inaugural league will launch in September, thanks to MA Sports Leagues.

Games will be held in Somerville beginning Sept. 17, 2015. Visit masportsleagues.com to register.
