Still from Airplane!
The folks at Offsite are cinema buffs after our own hearts—they like their movies like they like their cocktails: cult-classic, creative, and memorably weird.
They regularly invade Backbar to screen cult-favorite films, whipping up thematically paired cocktails to go with them. For Space Nerds Week in May, they hosted a “SpaceBols” event that paired Spaceballs with spirits from Lucas Bols. Previously, they devoted a night to The Big Lebowski (with plenty of Kahlua drinks, natch) and paid tribute to Bowie’s Bulge at their Labyrinth event.
And tonight, they’re back for a special screening of Airplane!—the ur-slapstick romp starring Leslie Nielsen, which turns 35 this year—complete with a four-course cocktail pairing, plus snacks. As usual, the menu’s mostly under wraps, but expect such ZAZ-inspired treats as the “I Like My Coffee“—a concoction of Averna, Braulio amaro, coffee bitters, coffee ice cubes, and Demerera sugar that takes its name from the film’s immortal wince-inducing zinger.
$40, June 29, 9 p.m., Backbar, 7 Sanborn Court, Somerville, 617-718-0249, getoffsite.com.
