Local Badass Elizabeth Warren Proposed to Her Husband 35 Years Ago

In the 3rd or 4th grade, I had a crush on a boy in my class. The details of what grade I was in and what the boy’s name was are hazy, most likely because I’ve blocked it from my brain to forget I’ve simply just forgotten over the years.
My babysitter told me to tell this boy that I liked him. She even gave me a script, which I read from, word-for-word, while hiding inside my laundry room in North Easton, Mass., talking on a phone WITH A CORD.
The speech that was prepared for me was succinct: “I believe in women’s rights and that a girl be aggressive. So will you be my boyfriend?”
He said a swift and striking, “No!” and hung up. True story.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever fully recovered, but I can say that one recent social media post by the badass senior Senator from Massachusetts just may do the trick: Elizabeth Warren told the world that she proposed to her husband in 1980.
She starts the post with:
By the time I was 30, I thought my life was settled. Granted, not quite what I’d expected—but settled. I was a single mom with two little kids, and I’d just started teaching law in Houston. And then I met a guy from Massachusetts named Bruce. I was completely crazy about him, and I still am. When I proposed to him, he said yes. I bought a sundress that could double as a wedding gown, and 35 years ago today, I married Bruce.
Of course she proposed! It’s fitting that this trailblazing dynamo would take on love the way she takes on Wall Street: with gusto.
