Celebrity Series Is Hosting a Five-Day Dance Party on the Rose Kennedy Greenway
If the Cambridge Dance Party and FIGMENT Boston’s bubble wrap dance floor didn’t offer you enough chances to break it down this summer, you’ll soon get another shot—at a five-day outdoor dance extravaganza on the Rose Kennedy Greenway coming in the fall.
For five consecutive nights starting on September 16, Celebrity Series of Boston is bringing live bands and expert dance instructors to the Greenway, where a dance floor and an elevated performance stage will be installed.
Each night of the series, titled “Let’s Dance Boston,” will kick off with a free 45-minute dance lesson, followed by a 90-minute live band set during which you can show off your newly acquired moves.
“There is something incredibly freeing and festive about dancing outside,” said Celebrity Series president and executive director Gary Dunning in a press release. “We want to encourage everyone to come out and embrace that feeling.”
“Let’s Dance Boston” will feature a different dance style each night—Latin on Wednesday the 16th, swing on Thursday the 17th, disco on Friday the 18th (including a tribute to Dorchester native Donna Summer), salsa on Saturday the 19th, and swing again on Sunday the 20th.
Don’t feel like dancing? There’ll be plenty of extra lawn space to bring a picnic and simply observe. Plus, you’ll still be able to check out Janet Echelman’s aerial sculpture and Design Biennial Boston installations on the Greenway.
“Let’s Dance Boston” will take place on the Rose Kennedy Greenway’s lawn at Atlantic Avenue and High Street, running September 16-20. Dance lessons will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. For more information on the instructors and live bands, visit celebrityseries.org/letsdanceboston.
